Obesitologist

 

An obesitologist is a doctor who specializes in the comprehensive treatment of obesity as a chronic disease, not just its effects. They diagnose the causes of excess weight and develop an individualized treatment plan that includes diet, physical activity, and, if necessary, pharmacotherapy.
 
When to see an obesitologist?
 
  • BMI over 30 obesity
  • BMI 27-29.9 (overweight) with comorbidities (e.g. type 2 diabetes, hypertension)
  • no results from independent weight loss attempts
 
Tests to be performed before the first visit to an obesitologist :
  • morphology
  • fasting glucose
  • TSH
  • creatinine
  • general urine test
  • lipid profile
  • AST and ALT
  • uric acid
